A Loose Seat Typically Does Not Indicate a Defect: 95 percent of the time, a loose seat is due to missing parts or an installation issue. IMPORTANT: Installation is not difficult, but is VERY DIFFERENT from other toilet seats. (Many plumbers have not seen this type of mounting system.) Following the installation instructions step-by-step is strongly recommended to ensure proper and secure installation. Check out the installation and troubleshooting video (click here).
A Slight Jiggle is Normal: When lifting the lid or seat, if you push left or right, a slight jiggle is normal. This small amount of play is due to the design of the Quick-Release mechanism, which makes thorough cleaning quick and easy. How much jiggle is normal? With the seat and lid closed (no one seated), push the seat left or right. The seat may move slightly, no more than 1/4 inch at the front of the bowl (the greatest distance from connection point), and the seat should return to its original position when side pressure is removed. If the slight jiggle still bothers you, try wrapping plumbers' teflon tape around each mounting post, then re-attach the seat.
Seat Sliding or Moving Out of Position: If your seat is sliding or moving out of position, your mounting bases are not securely fastened to your toilet. NOTE: If your seat has been loose for some time, it’s likely that urine or cleaning solution is under the mounting bases causing them to slip like soap on a ceramic floor. In this case, simply tightening the screws will not fix the issue. It is necessary to remove the seat and mounting bases, rinse and dry the clear rubber gaskets on the underside of the mounting bases and reinstall. NOTE: After reinstalling, please remind whoever cleans your toilet, DO NOT spray or saturate the mounting bases. If using a spray cleaner, spray the cloth, then wipe around the mounting bases.
Tips:
- For complete installation instructions (click here).
- To view installation & troubleshooting video (click here).
- Follow the installation instructions step-by-step.
- Use all parts (see Page 3 of the installation instructions for a complete list of parts). If your seat is new and missing parts, (click here) and send us a note detailing what you need. Otherwise, to order parts (click here)..
- Before installing the mounting bases, we recommend cleaning the mounting surface of your toilet bowl (around the mounting holes) with Windex or any glass cleaner. This will remove other cleaning residue and make the surface squeaky clean.
- Attach the seat to the mounting posts while the mounting bases are still loose, so you can adjust the seat.
- After adjusting the seat, tighten the screws very firmly. DO NOT turn the wing nuts. Tighten from the top using a screwdriver. Don't be shy...tighten the screws very firmly.
